Strike the Light

I have been working with the residents of Little Hulton, Salford to produce music for the outdoor event 'Strike the Light' which was held at Peel Park, Little Hulton, Salford on Sat 15th March 2008 at 7pm.

Salford residents burnt a 40ft high Sculptural bonfire as part of a community event called Strike the Light which also involves Walk the Plank. This celebration is a culmination of a 14-month out-reach programme in Little Hulton from The Lowry Theatre, Salford on Walkabout project.

THE WORLD IS MY IMAGINATION

The exhibition explores striking and picturesque model worlds which replicate physical and imaginary spaces, while reflecting existences and habitats, personal memories and longing. The shift in scale ultimately comments on our surroundings, within social, cultural and technological changes. Nine artists and collectives investigate the miniscule as an artist interface in video, networked and interactive installations, digital sound sculptures and photography, found objects and custom built environments.
Not just in Gulliver's Travels have shifting sizes and miniature shapes been a creative feature in literature and contemporary art practice, 'The World is My Imagination' explores this fascination for artists and audiences alike. Nine international projects display miniscule scenery with particular and ingenious methods within the field of media arts and environment.
Film, photography, digital imagery, sounds, model objects and even tiny plants are embedded into custom-built rooms and miniature interfaces, to establish a story; opposing a playful, dreamlike or virtual world against the real, in relation to Schopenhauer's view that 'the world is my imagination'.

'Metropolis' exhibition

'Metropolis exhibition' - played a selection of electroacoustic music for the opening night of the 'Metropolis' exhibition organised by 'Another Late Night' magazine.
Also exhibited some of my recent paintings Blocks 2 (see picture below) and City Scape 2. The exhibition will be on for 2 weeks at the Alima Centre, Sefton Street, Liverpool 22nd March until April 5th 2007.

SoundNetwork are organizing and supporting a programme of artistic activity for Liverpool Biennial Independents from September 19th – October 28th.

Concerts, commissions and an ongoing collaborative project across Liverpool .

SoundNetwork was set up to help develop the infrastructure of support and collaboration for sound art and experimental music in the North West region. Membership is free and lets you access information, support and opportunities for sound based artistic practice across the North West region and Beyond.
Sound Network have invited artists, Lee Patterson and Benjamin Gwilliam, to curate a series of live events to take place in the city over the Biennials' duration.

Combining north-west based Sound Network members and renowned national and international improvising musicians on the same bill, these events offer unique oppurtunities to catch some of the most exciting experimental and improvised music in Britain today.

Live - A couple of Thought Universe solo set this week -
- Monatronic night on Thursday 25th May at the Lounge Bar, Chorlton, Manchester UK - 8-12pm.
Along with music from Opiu and Nunatak. Monatronic is a Manchester-based label and collective with a passion for all things electronic. Established in 2004, it provides a platform for the exposure of electronic music, from digital disco to experimentation in left of centre and acoustic sounds. Alongside purely electronic sounds, the event will incorporate acoustic and analogue elements together with visuals and films developed by some of the UK’s most talented up and coming visual artists.

Gig at night and day Manchester

Played improvised keyboards last night at the famous Manchester 'Night and Day' venue with my friend Tony Pinkham.
Tony DJ'ed his own music mixed with a selection of classic funk/soul/hiphop music. The trusty Korg MS 20 synth had its part to play again and an old dodgy Yamaha keyboard complimented the music. A little bit different from working on my electronic music compositions - instantaneous great fun!
